Ely is located in Northern Minnesota and boasts a population of 3,483 inhabitants (not including wildlife). Needless to say, the human population increases considerably during the summer, as paddlers spend a night or two on their way into the Boundary Waters Canoe Area. Those not up for the challenge of the BWCA have found a wonderful getaway in this charming town, with its many restaurants, outdoor stores, clothing boutiques, spa, and of course, ice cream.
